Dreadnought by J-Humphries Dreadnought by J-Humphries
A concept for the force projection tank, my idea for a futuristic weapon. This massive thing is basically a battleship that's not limited to water. The hull itself has armor two feet thick, and the skeleton is jointed and segmented, allowing it to flex as it moves over varying terrain.

The main cannon is not a conventional weapon in any sense. The turret area is filled with sensors that analyze targets for structural weaknesses. Once determined, the cannon projects an array of force-fields on the target, each with a different vector and strength. Then, the force-fields are released, ripping the target apart. In essence, the the force-fields act like a fist, crushing a pop can in a split second. While each field has a small surface area of about a hundred square inches each, the power they exert allows them to level city blocks or crush tanks with ease. The system is equally effective against air targets, quickly snapping off wings or crushing the crew, depending on the tank commander's malice. The weapon generates an enormous amount of heat, so ground troops are advised to stay well out of the hundred yard danger radius during weapon operation.

Impressive concept. Just one issue. With the raised shoulder on the wing to port, (and presumably starboard as well), I wonder whether the turret has a 360 degree rotation, especially with the turret's lowered nose.

I agree that looks to be a problem. Also my questions are, does it have any other defense mechanisms? Such as point defenses or shielding capabilities? How quickly does it move? Finally with that much heat being expelled around the turret wouldn't a more efficient weapons system want to be developed? But still it is a great concept. I am sure different variations could be constructed.

I like that. It looks pretty cool and reminds me of one older anime movie where they had some similar things...I think. Kinda like hovercraft battle-cruiser.
The markings somehow make it look real.

Dang, still do not remember which anime it was. It was an older one about some military folks fighting aliens that had been know as "gods" I think. They fought in some battle-armor with long arms that ended in claws that resembled those of these deep-sea diving-suits today. Their main vehicle was such a hover-tank-thingy. Kinda like a battlecruiser or submarine. Not bad at all the whole thing. Your force projection tank just looks cooler and has more advanced tech/thinking in it.;)

On a different note, I seem to remember you saying that you had seen a lot of Italian post-apocalyptic films. Can you recall any of the titles? I'm interested in getting some, but they are hard to find.

Hm...hm...hmmm...
Yeah, I saw alot of those cheesy Italian movies of the 80's. Most notably their rip-off's of Star Wars and Mad Max...more or less. Hard to recall any titles tho, they had different titles for almost every single country.
Did a lil search on Google and found some here: [link]
'Exterminators of the Year 3000' [link] is one I remember as not too bad and
'Warriors of the Wasteland' [link]
There have been some more I think, but I haven't found any of them. Saw them ages ago on tv, but they do not show such stuff anymore at all and I guess they are very hard to get....if they have ever been on DVD!
Maybe somewhere on the internet some fan uploaded them..?;)

If you could make several, smaller of these force-projection guns, one might be able to create and anti-missile system. Even an anti-projectile system, period. What a concept, being able to stop any incoming projectiles via automated guns.

Great idea, mate :D

This system can do all of those things autonomously. The only issue with a smaller version would be powering it. The vehicle is that size for a reason, because you've got to have quite a lot of space to house an entire reactor.

Ah, I see. I'm taking it then that the 'gun' uses most of the energy already provided by the reactor, right? Also, does it have any conventional weaponry to speak of?

It's got a small 20mm gun under the turret mantel, but like all tanks, it relies on infantry support.

Next step would be to build a suit enabling the infantry within the 'cooldown zone' perhaps?

Normally they would just duck inside an APC if they had to stay near the thing. That's not really necessary though, as this thing tends to stay back from the front lines.
