Colonists on Mars aren't going to have shiny spaceships and live in sleek bubble domes, they're going to drag prefab trailers out onto some plot of land nobody wants and set up shop, maybe mining iron from ferrous rocks on the surface, or growing genetically engineered crops designed to grow in the harsh conditions of the fourth planet. People will be fiercely independent, and won't take crap from anybody. In other words, It'll look like America's past.
